Five priorities for Ward 5

Straight answers on the issues neighbours raise most at the door.

01
Top priority

Stop multi-unit housing development

Hundreds of residents Aaron has spoken with in Ward 5 alone are worried about overpopulation and the strain on our infrastructure and services. People chose Welland for its small-town feel. They shouldn't have it transformed against their will by aggressive expansion the city isn't designed or prepared for. The current pace of forced growth isn't sustainable.

02

Residents first, real recovery

Put law-abiding, taxpaying residents first by relocating homeless shelters away from areas where public safety is at risk, and use available Ontario government funding to build rehab centres and treatment programs that help people get clean and back on their feet.

03

Protect Cooks Mills

Preserve the rural identity of Cooks Mills: no further industrial development, and full support for conserving green space and farmland.

04

Flatline property taxes

Zero increases for residential homeowners for the full term. Budget essential and emergency services first, then the most urgent infrastructure. Some non-essential programs may need to pause funding for a couple of years to fix the core problems facing our city.

05

Fix roads, safer streets

Cut unnecessary spending and redirect it to neglected roads and street safety, with speed bumps and new four-way stops at dangerous residential intersections.

Born and raised here

Keep Cooks Mills rural.

The proposed plan to replace Cooks Mills Hall with a giant community centre must be scrapped. The majority of the neighbourhood doesn't want it built, and Aaron will say so at the council table.

Meet Aaron

A Welland lifer who shows up.

Born and raised in Cooks Mills and a Welland resident for 38 years, Aaron has spent his career teaching young people and bringing this community together through music. He knows how to listen, how to lead an ensemble, and how to get everyone pulling in the same direction.

Educator

Occasional high-school music supply teacher with the DSBN; previously directed student concert bands and choir ensembles.

Community

Choir Music Director at Central United Church in downtown Welland.

Musician

Piano accompanist for Choralis Camerata, piano instructor at Quarter Note Music Arts, and wedding pianist with The Fox Music.

Education

Eastdale Secondary School, honours, 2006. Bachelor of Music in piano performance, Brock University. Bachelor of Education, University of Western Ontario.

Family roots

Built by Welland hands.

Aaron comes from generations of Wellanders who worked in our plants, kept the lights on, served at city hall and looked after their neighbours.

From Crowland Township council in 1956 to Welland Hydro, Welland Forge, Atlas, the seniors centre and the Welland Fire Department, Aaron's family has spent generations building, powering and caring for this city.

Those roots run deep in Welland's Italian community and across every corner of town. Aaron grew up with that example of public service, and he's ready to carry it forward for Ward 5.
